Pictures from G and G’s visit

At the building museum

“Smiling” in front of the food car ….which I think was David’s favorite part of the zoo!

You might be asking yourself if David has any other shirts than the red car one that is seen in every picture??? Basically not, he LOVES this wonderful shirt which plays the sound of McQueen - I am looking forward to winter so we can finally pack it away!

Grandma’s Here

Grandma came to visit us while Daddy has been traveling for the past 2 weeks. Right now he is in Scotland and comes home this afternoon!!!

We have had fun with Grandma these 2 weeks…we visited the zoo, got David’s hair cut at “Cartoon Cuts” (although I wasn’t thrilled with the un-even hair cut, David enjoyed the place), went to Tyson’s mall play center which is always a HUGE hit, visited the Building Museum and of course went shopping! Grandpa arrived yesterday and David has been laughing and playing rough since the moment he got here. I think he misses tumbling and roughing around with his Daddy so he has been letting all that energy out with Grandpa!

David is saying a lot more recently - this week he said what I would consider to be his first sentence. He was helped a little bit by Grandma who told him to “tell mommy thank you for changing your diaper” so he came up to me and said “poopy mommy thank you.” It was an exciting moment!

Grandma also bought David a potty chair this week. I should have purchased one a few months ago, since David always tells us when he is going to the bathroom but honestly I just thought he was too young. So this week, he got his new potty chair. From when he tried it out in the store, he LOVED it. Right when we came home, he insisted on using it, and sure enough he went! Since then he has gone to the bathroom twice per day, without me initiating anything. He just goes into the bathroom, pulls it into the kitchen and begins to take his clothes off. Yes, you read correctly, “takes his clothes off” and by that I mean that he insists on taking off all his clothes in order to go, including his shoes and socks. I’m thinking just changing a wet diaper is easier than the large process that takes place each time he needs to pee. :)

Pictures from Grandma soon to come….

July Updates

The month of July just flew by and I have not been too good at keeping up with the blog!

The second week of July we went on our annual (pretty sure its my 6th year) Clark beach vacation. It was extra special this year since both of Dave’s siblings live in Missouri and everyone was able to come! David LOVED seeing his cousins “Me-me” (Meghann) and “Daniel” (which he said rather well). They both were so sweet and very patient with him. David had a particularly rough week - he ran a fever both in the beginning of the week and then the day we returned and so during the week just wasn’t himself. He unfortunately didn’t like the water (neither the beach nor pool) so Dave and I spent lots of quality time indoors but it was still so nice to get away. Plus we had 2 nights of crabs which is always wonderful!

Last week, Dave and I got to go on our first vacation WITHOUT the baby! It was long overdue and was just fabulous! Dave had a conference in San Deigo so we decided to turn in into a little get away. The weather was perfect and we enjoyed sleeping in and eating out at restaurants with some peace :)

David stayed with Grammy and Poppy while we were away and the reports are that he did wonderful! Grammy said he ate some new foods - or rather foods he won’t eat for me, like pickles :), learned a new word “cookie” which of course he uses regularly now and best of all Grammy taught him to love water! Amazingly enough he went swimming, loved the sprinkler and played with squirt guns! I know unbelievable right! I myself didn’t really believe it until every night this week he has loved bath time, wanted to get in and actually sat for the entire bath - which he hasn’t done in months! Yeah for Grammy!

Another special treat was that Gi-gi and Pop-pop are living with the Clarks before they move to Missouri in September, so they got to spend some extra time with David before they move. Thank you Grammy and Poppy for watching him!

The worst part about July is that for all our trips we brought our camera but didn’t take any pictures! Our friends David and Missy came down to the beach one day and took our Clark family photo - notice how David was really working his smile for the camera!

Playground Fun!

Last week we went with NCC’s playgroup to a park in VA. The park has these spouts of water that come out of the ground. We have been having troubles lately with David and his new found fear of water, so I was surprised last week when he seemed to enjoy himself. Today we decided to visit the park again, to get more water practice since next week we go to the beach. (And its going to be a LONG week if he decides to dislike water!) The water goes on and off randomly and shoots in different directions. Dave captured some funny shots of David looking at the spout in the ground (I think wondering where the water went) and then being fully surprised when it came right out and hit his face. He was a good sport and went back in the water after the small drama had occurred.

July 4th

We had a fun 4th this year. Grandma and Grandpa came down to visit for a few days. On the 3rd we went down to the Capitol and watched the rehearsal for the Capitol 4th celebration. We got to hear some performers like Taylor Hicks and Jerry Lewis - and of course David got to show off his dancing skills. And then on the 4th we saw the fireworks - or “boom” as David called them. Here are a few shots from the weekend.
